How We Organize Ourselves

Central idea
Systems may bring order and safety to a community
Lines of inquiry
1. Where we find systems
2. The purpose of systems
3. The relationship between community helpers and systems
Key Concepts
Form, Function, Connection
We had our first all school Morning Meeting this week. Wow! We sure have a lot of kids in one building, but how great that we all get to be together now!
This is the last week of our planner and we had fun wrapping it up with our summative! We also had a special visitor from our community come speak with us about being an authority figure, as well as rules around the neighborhood.
We had so much fun celebrating the start to Fall this week! We explored leaves and used them for art and math. We also made fall patterns.
In Mandarin we are still working on number recognition and counting. We are really getting good at it!
We were talking about nouns the past few weeks and now this week we moved on to verbs. We love to share our writing!
We ended our week with an apple tasting!
Ms. Dottore was so busy cutting apples, she didn't have a moment to take a picture! Bummer!

The Family Picnic was a lot of fun! It was great to get to see each other outside of school!

The Curious kinders were very inspired by a book we read. They came in on Monday spreading so much kindness! Ava brought in a toy she had for Reuben because she knew he liked it; Alma brought in books to donate to our library; Hank drew pictures for all his friends! Wow! My heart is full on this Monday morning by how we are all living the Learner Profile!💗 #campusinternational #ibpyp
This week we focused on authority figures in our community. We talked about authority figures in our classroom, school and neighborhood community.
4th graders, Emma and Alta, came to teach us about the Action Cycle and how it connects to all the kindness we are spreading!
Choose: What can I do?
Act: How can I do it?
Reflect: What was the result?

In Mandarin we are now learning to count.

We continued to work a lot with ten frames and shapes this week.
Pick one pattern block. Use the block to trace and create a picture using the shape.
The Fathers Walk was a great event. So many males showed up to support our students.
We celebrated the opening of our much anticipated, beautiful, new building with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Many community members attended this event.
We have been learning about nouns for the past couple weeks. Now we are connecting nouns to labeling and captions.

Thank you to all who were able to make it to Open House! It was so nice getting to chat with all of you and for you to get to know the other families.

We have been talking more about our duties as a good citizen and why it is important in our community and how it helps our community. We are starting to see how having systems in place, like our Classroom Jobs, really help us.

We worked on spelling our names and learned that words that name people are nouns.

We were learning about the attributes of shapes and investigating the world around us to find them. We had fun working with a partner looking everywhere around the room and finding shapes everywhere!
We celebrated International Dot Day by reading the book and making our own dots!
